FAITH FOR TODAY* SCRIPTURES AND THOUGHTS

* Radio program begun by the Rev. Dr. JC Stanley (ordination name),  Heggelund, "Brother Joseph", our Senior Pastor, on WNLC in New England while he served as a contact chaplain for the armed forces during the Vietnam War. This was a critical time for him as he was taken prisoner in the Soviet Union before the Iron Curtain fell, for giving out Bibles translated in Russian, after being a guest at the University of Moscow.

Scripture verses:

…the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power.” ( Acts 1:7b, King James Verson).

Thoughts:           The seasons ordained by God.

Prayer:  Father, we thank You for the revelation of Your truth revealed through the earth’s seasons and through the season commemorating the supernatural birth of Your Son Jesus into the world.  Today we consider with praise the significance of the first day of winter and its proximity to Christmas Day. We see the first day of winter, which is not only the darkest day of the year, but the day from which the hours of sunlight begin to grow longer again, heralding the eventual return of spring and summer. We see the humble birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, heralding the eventual victory He would win for each of us through His Death and Resurrection. May each of us, especially in our darkest days, receive Your Son Jesus as our Lord, and as our source of true hope, both in this life and in the life to come.   This we pray in the Name of Jesus, Who is our “blessed hope.” Amen.

Special prayer request for our senior pastor, Brother Joseph:

Please pray for Brother Joseph, who is facing not only nuclear medicine tests for his heart, but also cataract surgery on January 8, 2010 for his right eye, which was diagnosed with worsening cataracts this past week.  Please join in lifting Brother Joseph who celebrates his 71st. birthday this coming Christmas Day, up to the Throne of God in prayer.
