Milford’s Vuono ordained vocational deacon

MILFORD — On Dec. 5, Dorothy Vuono of Christ Church, Milford, was ordained as a vocational deacon in the Episcopal Church by the Right Rev. Wayne Wright, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware, among a standing-room-only crowd at St. Stephen’s Church, Harrington. This historic event marked the completion of the diocese’s first class of vocational deacons. Deacon Vuono, along with five other ordinands, completed four years of study, formation, service and prayer to meet required competencies. As a deacon, Mrs. Vuono takes her place in the life of the church as one of the four orders of ministry, along with laypersons, bishops and priests. Deacon Dottie is a servant advocate leader for the sick, the poor and the disadvantaged; may assist the priest during liturgy; and serves in direct relationship to the bishop. The Rev. Dr. James L. White and the parishioners of Christ Church are happy and proud to welcome Deacon Dottie as the first deacon assigned to their congregation.
